SchoolsOne of our areas of expertise is creating wildlife, sensory and environmentally friendly gardens and learning spaces for schools. Our creative projects incorporate the initiatives that are put forward in the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto, Every Child Matters, Eco Schools, Forest Schools and Sustainable Schools Action Plan as well as linking to cross-curricular activities of the National Curriculum.Last Autumn We completed a brand new wildlife and vegetable garden for the children at Swimbridge Primary School. The existing pond was restored and a seating area, two vegetable planters and homes for birds and insects were added. It’s now set to be the hub of all things wild and veggie with the garden being used for school lessons and after school clubs. Garry Reed, head teacher, said “ A neglected area of the school is now a wonderful space for the children to enjoy and learn about plants, search for mini-beasts and grow their own vegetables. Its going to be a real addition to the school as well as a great resource for our after school clubs.” Recently completed is ‘The Secret Garden’ Big Lottery Fund project for Pilton Infants School. A large wildlife pond with dipping platform and an outdoor classroom with round table were installed. A living willow spiral with oak sculpture, a music and art zone and a network of flowing paths that link the areas together created and exciting, fun and stimulating environment for the children to work in. This project was recently awarded the Cashmore Cup (more information coming soon to the news page).
